Register Online: Introduction to Kendo

The Steveston Kendo Club will be offering an introductory course to Kendo, the Japanese way of the sword, for Adults and Students ages 8–15 this summer.

From this course, you will learn:

The basics of kendo etiquette
The origins of kendo and kendo history
How to hold a shinai (a bamboo sword)
How to move your feet, kendo style
How to strike a blow with your shinai

This course will be taught by world-class kendo instructors and practitioners. Our instructors have been members of Canada’s national kendo team and have competed and trained with some of the very best kendo practitioners in the world. This course will be taught at the Steveston Martial Arts Centre adjacent to the Steveston Community Centre.

Course costs is $110 which includes a bamboo sword (shinai). Those who successfully graduate from this class with an attendance rate of 8/10 classes, will be asked to join the club as full time members.

Classes will be Monday and Fridays on the following dates:

  • July 15, 19, 22, 26, 29
  • Aug 9,12,16, 19, 23
